If this thread already exists let me know. I was hoping people could type out ant species and genus pronunciation. I have no idea how to pronounce anything.

Pronunciation is different for everyone.  One person's way is not the same as everyone else.

Just looking for the most popular or common. If I'm ever talking to another ant keeper what pronunciations are least likely to make me sound silly.

Not sure about yours on Myrmecocystus, you seem to have forgotton a few letters. And "cystus" would be like "sistus", at least from a English standpoint. Since Latin is a dead language, we can't really be sure.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies. 

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

I agree with this. When in doubt, I just pronounce something like Spanish since it’s a Romance language without superfluous silent letters. Just say NO to Lasious!

I just realized that I've always pronounced 99% of these wrong  :( 

Me saying Aphaenogaster: Ah-fullah-gaster 


My ants: One small(0 worker) Solenopsis xyloni colony- Queen Colony died  :*(

there's multiple accepted pronunciations. As long as people know what you're saying.

Personally I was thinking the same thing about 'Camp-o-not-us', which to me sounds like something from a southern drawl, but I still respect it all the same.
