1 Tetramorium immigrans colony-20 workers

1 Dorymyrmex insanus- 1 queen, used to have workers

 

1 large P. occidentalis colony- around 50 workers, plenty of brood

My Formica pallidefulva bit the dust, too. Formica are NOT easy.

Update 12/25/2020

So I realized that I left this journal at a weird place, and I wanted to clarify some things.

1. I have a healthy Formica fusca group colony in diapause right now, and it has 3 workers. This is the one with pictures of workers up.

2. I had a second queen (the one I caught with my hand on a bike ride) but she died right before getting her first worker. 

3. I actually have a 3rd queen that I never mentioned, who I'm hoping will lay eggs this spring. 

I'm sorry for any confusion I caused in my phrasing. Rest assured, this journal isn't done, even if I made it look like it was. Luckily Formica seem to be rather common in my area, so even if I lose both queens I'll likely be able to restart this journal over the summer. 

Any confusion about the status of this journal on various indexes is entirely my fault.

Update 4/21/2021

Welp. The colony had a giant population boom, up to about 10 workers, and then they all dropped dead on the same day, about a week ago. I have no idea why they died, they had plenty of food and water and I didn't see any mold or mites. As of this writing the queen is still alive and she has but a single pupae; I'm going to continue giving her food and water and hope that she can pull through.

That sucks! The same thing happened to my Formica pallidefulva.

I love Formica for their size, but they seem so finnicky. I'm enjoying my Tetramorium colony a lot more, and I think I understand your love of tiny ants better.
