About 30 minutes after. I’m not there any more, I was on vacation, but I’d still like to hear what I did wrong.

Yes, probably americanus or something similar as AntsDakota said. I believe Lasius niger is a very rare species in the U.S. and are not that common.

I'm thinking of adding another outworld to my M. testaceus set-up so I can feed them better. Any thoughts about this, or should I try the risky move of adding fresh fluon (which is toxic to ants) and hopefully have no worker deaths and hoping the fluon actually is applied effectively. I'm guessing option one would be better, and I will be sure to add a lot-lot of fluon for the new outworld so these crazy little ants don't overrun it again. (if you want more context why I am thinking about this, read my journal)

Do yours forage 24-7? Mine are hardly ever out. Teach me your ways... Anyhow, can't you plug the entrance with cotton really quick?

Afternoon and early morning, that's just their habit. I would block it with cotton but that would equal squishing a worker, they always have a worker sitting at the entrance, half of its body outside, and the other half in the tubing. I never have seen a worker not there.

Plug it slowly. If it's chilling in the tube then just put the cotton in the way so it can't get out. My guess is that it would run away down into the nest and then you put the cotton all the way in. If not and it runs into the nest catch the lone worker with an aspirator or something. Then when your done with the fluon just put it back in.

You should have put fluon in the outworld before you put the ants in

You can try talc powder, I find it works pretty well, and it's safe for ants assuming they don't try to drink the alcohol.
