I recently ran out of test tubes and other small containers. Is there a different way to store founding queens?

Ants I have:
1 Formica fusca group- 0 workers
1 Tetramorium immigrans colony-20 workers
1 Dorymyrmex insanus- 1 queen, used to have workers
1 large P. occidentalis colony- around 50 workers, plenty of brood

Buy more tubes, they are not that expensive.

I’m going to, but I can’t for the next week because I’m away from home but I’m still in my state. I’m looking for a short-term fix, as I’ve been seeing lots of queens but I have no way to capture them.Buy more tubes, they are not that expensive.

You can use water bottles, and put some wet napkins in them for hydration, as a temporary solution.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.
However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:
Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

I bet clear glass beer bottles (like Corona) could work with a mega water resevoir. Get your parents’ permission before emptying it. Lol

Another option I've used in a pinch (thought it might be harder these particular day, sigh) is the little 1-oz. ketchup cups at the take out places, Burger King, etc. You can either nicely ask for a few when you grab a meal - tell them it's for ants and usually they tell you to take whatever and look at you a little oddly, maybe to get you out of the store quickly, heh - or, you can buy them on Amazon for super cheap - couple bucks for sleeves of 100s. They usually have a fitted clear plastic lid. A queen can easily be housed in these temporarily. In fact, tiny species can actually be started off this way if you are careful (little Pheidole, thief ants, etc.). You can make a pin hole in the side and add a tiny droplet of water or honey solution periodically.

I had this problem last year I kept Queens in anything I could think off. I also lost a lot that escaped and still have a Componotus colony living in my house. I didn't have the heart to raid them so they are my room mates and I leave sweets out for them now. I own the place and it's already falling apart so I'm not worried about damages lol. If you need some testtubes I can ship you a few dozen if you just cover the shipping cost. I ordered quite a bit since last summer

Thank you so much for the offer, but I already ordered more. There are worse roommates than ants though lol
