They need Lasius host workers, too.

Uh yes, that’s exactly what parasitic queens need to found colonies. They need brood and/or workers of the host species in order to found colonies.
My Ants:
(x1) Campontous semitstaceus ~20 workers, 1 Queen
(x1) Camponotus vicinus ~10 workers, 1 Queen (all black variety)
(x1) Tetramorium immigrans ~100 workers, 1 Queen
(x1) Myrmercocystus mexicanus -1 Queen
(x2) Mymercocystus mimcus -1 Queen
(x1) Mymercocystus testaceus ~45 workers, 1 Queen

The mini hearths look pretty nice

Take extra steps to seal the glass because Tetras can slip out.

Have you had them escape a THA formicarium before?  I'm currently keeping my Tetras in a Mini Hearth.  Just a queen and some brood currently, so probably have some time before they would try to escape.  But want to make sure I have something else for them if needed when the time comes.

Currently keeping Tetramorium Immigrans and Camponotus Pennsylvanicus in THA mini hearths.  I also have a couple Prenolepis Imparus queens in test tubes.

tarheel ants has a 5 for 125 deal on their mini hearths and I was thinking about buying that but i'm not sure if its the type III or not. Also I think he means that they can sometimes slip between the glass if there is a tiny gap but most THA products have a fairly tight seal from what I have seen. Perhaps something to keep an eye out for, the queen won't be able to get out so worse comes to worse you have a few worker ants walking around.

Yeah, that’s what I meant. I’m not trashing THA, just pointing out an issue I’ve had with three colonies I’ve raised in mini-hearths. It happened even worse to me with a Nucleus my Crematogaster are in. You can make a totally escape proof set up for $10 with a good box, fluon, and a test tube.

Lasius social parasites cannot open pupae for the most part. You could wait until they hatched and introduce the callows to the queen.

"God made..... all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds (including ants). And God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:25 NIV version

Keeping:

Tetramorium immigrans

Formica cf. pallidefulva, cf. incerta, cf. argentea

Formica cf. aserva, cf. subintegra

Pogonomyrmex occidentalis

Pheidole bicarinata

Myrmica sp.

Lasius neoniger, brevicornis

I bought this, they’re type III and they all come with nest mates. It’s a pretty great deal
