Diatomaceous earth as ant barrier?

I’m wondering if a band of this around the rim of my Crematogaster outworld could stop them? Maybe it would be too risky? Thoughts?

It would stick in the ants' joints, and then cut up their exoskeletons as they try to walk; they would then bleed to death.

The idea would be to put it up past the fluon on the rim where they’re not even supposed to be, but yeah, not going to try that.

I suppose it could get rid of your mite problem, you just need to isolate the ants from the place with diatomaceous earth. Perhaps link a separate container with an entrance too small for the ants to enter.

This probably would work better as a second layer barrier for species like Solenopsis invicta who you really don't want running around if they escape.
