Caught this at a local trail on July 11th. When I learned it was parasitic I gave it some pupae from my xyloni queen. The queen didn't care for them much. After a few days she started looking thin so I gave her some honey. She drank all of it and chilled on the wet cotton ball in the test tube for a few days. My xyloni got workers last night so I gave her a worker today. She took it and they didn't fight at all. Video coming soon.

Just a question, what time did you find these queens? I’m near Mission Trails, and I thought they close at 5 PM. Also do you know where you found them?

Arent you in LA?? Mission Trails is over 100 miles away from LA county. Maybe you are talking about a different mission trails.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Yes, I am in LA. But I took an anting weekend road trip to San Diego, just to check out what lived there so I can plan where to ant, and what to try and catch.

No idea. It was doing good and seemed chill with the worker. When I came home it was squished up against the cotton and the glass like it was trying to escape.

Could just not have mated. I find unmated queens die rather quickly sometimes.

"God made..... all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds (including ants). And God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:25 NIV version

Keeping:

Tetramorium immigrans

Formica cf. pallidefulva, cf. incerta, cf. argentea

Formica cf. aserva, cf. subintegra

Pogonomyrmex occidentalis

Pheidole bicarinata

Myrmica sp.

Lasius neoniger, brevicornis

Bringing this back. I caught more of these queens. Was only able to keep one. It has 2 hosts and an egg pile. So far better than attempt #1.

It may be possible it got tangled in the wet cotton, and drowned/force fed with liquid.

I caught like 15 right before I went on vacation. I had to get rid of them all except one. Of course the one I chose was the only infertile one.   I will succeed with these next year. I guarantee it.

Now I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Solenopsis Amblyhcilla can't have Solenopsis Xyloni pupae they only take Solenopsis Xyloni workers. So for the introduction introduce 1 workers at a time and in the end have at least 50 workers in with her and do not put in Xyloni pupae. I've kept Amblychilla in the past.
