Howdy,

Well, I like ants. I've liked them for as long as I remember. I attempted to start up a colony on couple of occasions, but every time something would stop me from finalizing the project and I'd end up releasing the ants in the wilderness of my back yard.

That is until a few days ago when four queens flew into my house and presented themselves to me. I decided I'd give my best to make this happen, so I grabbed some Petri dishes and caught them (I'm not sure but I believe they are Lassius Niger). I suppose I'll give more details on my plans in a dedicated topic and keep this post at just tad bit more than a "Howdy".

Nice! Lasius niger I think are pretty easy to keep, a great beginner species. There is an ID sections in this forum if you want to get someone to confirm the species. Just follow the instruction format and people will get back and answer very quickly. Good luck and have fun! Very cool to see people keeping ants all over the world.

I'm pretty sure its Camponotus clarithorax, and one of the workers in the picture is some sort of gynandromorph type of thing.

Edit: Also, I don't think we have subbarbatus in CA.

Small world!
I'm sure our internet paths will cross eventually, and maybe real life ones too. We don't live close to each other, but you never know.
