Any help with this lady would be appreciated.  I'm new to ants, but already addicted!

 

1. Location of collection: floating in pool (thought she was dead) in Jacksonville FL

2. Date of collection: June 12, 2020
3. Habitat of collection: Urban
4. Length: 5mm (see pic with ruler)
5. Coloration, hue, pattern and texture: reddish-brown

6. Distinguishing characteristics: petiole and post-petiole with 2 spines on posterior-dorsal surface of mesosoma
7. Anything else distinctive: Dark wings (see shed wings in pic)
8. Nest description: N/A

9. Nuptial flight time and date: N/A
10 . Post the clearest pictures possible of the top, side, and face of the ant in question, and if possible, their nest and the habitat they were collected in.

Trachymyrmex septentrionalis queen. Fungus growers. Usually, these queens have a pellet for their fungus that they take when they fly. Has she tried to grow her fungus?

If she has just shed her wings she probably has her pellet. Nice catch!

Trachymyrmex septentrionalis. In a few days you should start to see her taking care of a little black spec which will be her buccal (fungus) pellet which she will start her fungus garden with after she regurgitates it.
