Ants I have: Tapinoma sessile(2 queen colony). RED MORPH Camponotus neacticus(now has pupae!), Tetramorium immigrans (x3), Aphaenogaster sp, Temnothorax sp, Brachymyrmex sp. possibly infertile , Ponera pennsylvanica, and Pheidole morrisi!
Other insects: Polistes sp. Queen
Ants I need: Pheidole sp., Trachymyrmex sp., Crematogaster cerasi , Dorymyrmex sp. Most wanted: Pheidole morrisii
My pheidole cf. dentata major pupae in second gen.
That's not entirely unexpected for a larger species. I see that the larger Ph. pillifera-group tend to get majors quickly. It also could be that in areas with low amounts/diversity of Pheidole they get majors faster. My area is extremely diverse with Pheidole, with nests at every turn.

These species is very intense. Once I was hiking at Arches national park, and I saw a pheidole colony wage war on an unidentified larger speices while partaking in a muptial flight.

Awesome major! My colony have just gotten their first major pupae, so it's any day now...
I accidentally froze all my ants
Update 8-21-2020
It has been two months since I found these queens, and they continue to impress me. Of all the various species I keep, these are hands down the fastest at finding food and recruiting workers. The colony still has one major, but I'm hoping for more soon. Their brood pile is massive!
I'm going to try posting a GIF of them. If a picture is worth a thousand words, a GIF must be worth 10,000.

I am glad I could help inspire you to do that!
I wasn't even trying to, I just wanted to take rapid shots so I could pick 1 good one out of the bunch But my phone gave me the option to "create animation".
SO COOL! Those little phatheads are super neat.
I like a nice still photo, but I hope more people start to add a little movement to their journals.
edit: watching it over and over, it is crazy how much you catch in this little gif that would not be as easy to interpret from a still or even a series of stills.

The head of that major is certifiably phat. Congratulations!

Just a cool photo of them swarming a dubia roach piece with a major helping out. Gotta love this species!

So awesome! My Pheidole cf. morrisii's major is also occasionally foraging!

I'll admit, for a first major that girl is a pretty good size. Normally in Pheidole the very first major the colony produces will be pretty tiny and unimpressive, so consider yourself lucky. My P. obtusospinosa's first major is only around 3.5-4mm, when they should be around 6mm in a mature colony...
My Pheidole first major is barely bigger than a regular worker.

Update 9-3-2020
The Phatheads are doing amazingly well. Their feeding swarms keep getting bigger and bigger with multiple majors joining in now. I counted up to five majors last check. Definitely having a blast with this species. The only let down is that they aren't that into seeds yet.
Here is a photo of them going to town on an earwig:
I also need to get my hands onto a pheidole colony
