Hey guys! I'm new at that hobby and trying to create some new things. I found this empty glass in home and I thought that It would be a great ant nest! It has a darkish area, where they can live comfortable and I can see them. But the only problem is feeding. I don't know how can i feed them easily without open the mouth. Other than that, what's your opinions?IMG_20200621_221446.jpg IMG_20200621_221435.jpg IMG_20200621_221406.jpg

Looks good, but one problem I can see is the water supply. This container doesn't seem to have much in the way of available water storage, and even if you watered the cotton ball, it'd dry up relatively quickly, meaning you'd have to constantly (like, every other day) refill it, which could greatly disturb the queen. Feeding would probably be just as tedious. If I were you, i'd opt for the standard test tube setup and attach an outworld (like a small tupperware container) for feeding. If you want to keep the darkish area, some would suggest covering the test tube in a red transluscent film, as ants are apparently blind to red and would think they're in the dark (this is yet to be verified though, if i'm correct).

I think this set up will fail in keeping ants because you can't keep them in a sealed environment.  You need to have a bit of air exchange and you do not want 100% humidity.

Looks like it could make a decent feeding station though. I'm not sure how, but it just has that look about it.

I would try to get a standard test tube. Shouldn’t be too hard.

Thanks for your feedbacks! I've already had test tubes but just wanted to try some new things as i said, and wanted to take some opinions.

In my experience cotton balls dry out very slowly.

Yeah, I do think a test tube would work better.
