Would appreciate an ID on this queen (?) please. Found in UK today (17 June) around 3pm, hot and humid day after storms yesterday, beside a large Lasius niger nest with nuptial flight earthworks and activity. Size 8-10mm.

Just want to check she's claustral (and indeed a queen). Think I can see wing scars in the photo. She ran like a queen and is substantially bigger than the workers around. Many thanks.

Yeah, that is not a queen, only Formica sp. worker. Don’t worry, you will find a queen soon!

Haha cheers guys. Much appreciated. I'll go for an evening stroll and put them back where I found them.
