I caught this ant running around on a trail about 9:00pm.  Looks like a queen ant? 

 

Thank you for your help IDing!  I’m newer to the anting hobby and hoping to find a queen and try my luck at raising a colony.

 

 

 

1. Location

- Phoenix Arizona (Town of Gilbert)

2. Date of collection

- June 11^th 2020 about 9:00pm

3. Habitat of collection: 

- Typical Arizona Desert

4. Length (from head to gaster):

- Hard to guess exactly. Probably about 4 – 5 mm

5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: 

- Gastor looks shiny in pictures but in person it looks more “fuzzy”

9. Nuptial flight time and date:

- June 11^th 2020

Seems like it's from the genus Brachymyrmex to me.

These pictures through the test tube are pretty crappy.  I'll try to get some better ones.

Probably Brachymyrmex patagonicus, an introduced species that is known from that area.

Yeah, they were everywhere in Phoenix. Even saw a few queened colonies while flipping over rocks, and such.
