Very nice. A little on the pricey side though.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

I prefer smaller chambered nests, but I still like the design.  :)

I think it looks really nice, but not something I'm probably gonna buy. Just doesn't look like enough space for the price point. I gotta say that top viewing is really awesome though. Reminds me of the mini hearth type 1

The price for something like that seems pretty reasonable to me.

Honestly, you can really underestimate the costs of making something like that. Not to mention, his type 3 material is superior to hydro stone by far.

Very cool. I like how the nestmate slot takes the open space. Hard for me to see if it justifies the price though. I will have to wait to hear from folks who have used it.

It’s not that much for adults who have to rely on making formicariums to support their family.

What makes it superior?  Seems to behave just like it from what I have seen.

Gypsum in hydro stone dissolves over time. His material is harder than hydro stone and more resistant to damage than ants like Camponotus, Pogonomyrmex, etc.
His material is textured and looks nicer. The previous type 2 material’s main product was hydro stone, but apparently this type 3 is something different.

As far as I am aware, all cements dissolve over time, just how quickly they do is the problem.  I haven't kept any of the formicaria long enough to see what lasts longer.  Besides, it would take a long time for hydrostone to come to the point of being unusable.

On the topic of texturing, I think he just combines larger grains of sand or something with the wet mix then pours.  Still good looking though.

i don't think he combines larger grains of sand in the wet mix.the outside of the atrium is not sand coated ,only the chambers are sand coated

That's a fantastic price, probably on the low side. What a lot of you kids don't understand is that it costs a lot of time and money to hand make these kinds of products at low volume. If you want to make a living at it you either have to sell a ton of them (10s of thousands) or raise your prices so that you can afford to eat, pay rent, etc. Only making a couple bucks off of each sale isn't enough for an adult with adult responsibilities and adult costs to be worth their time. Selling such an obscure labor heavy product for 115 bucks? That's low if anything.

I'm strongly considering purchasing one for myself. The appearance is really good. I want to put it on my coffee table in my living room.

Yes, I'm also thinking about buying one. I love being able to see the ants from multiple angles.
