Camponotus Sansabeanus OR Camponotus vicinus

I have a chance to get either a Camponotus Sansabeanus OR Camponotus vicinus queen with eggs.  Which would you choose?  

I would like the largest, non-hibernating, easiest to care for ants in Arizona.  Thanks for your input!

If you are only getting one queen, I’d get sansabeanus. However, if there are multiple queens available, vicious is polygynous.

Vicinus being polygynous depends on area and variety.

Ah, very interesting!  I'll try and find out if these ones are polygenus.

I don't know about Arizona, but I got the impression from talking to people that California salsas (sansabeanus) and vicinus both PREFER a wine cooler diapause.

In AZ it might just mean turning off the heat for a few months in winter, but I have no idea.

 

P.S. My salsa is super super super super picky about food.  :facepalm:

Kept Before: Solenopsis molesta, Prenolepis imparis (still got one, but infertile)
