I keep my Nylanderia in a home made 3d printed formicarium with great success. And they are a moisture loving species as well. While I wouldn't buy from AC, and this is better, plastic formicariums can be good.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Good point. That’s why I said *most ants.

In that case I’ll stick to my guns with the silicone then! Will try and think of a way to maybe cover it but it doesn’t look that bad...

I have to admit Vincex I can only actually find 2 UK sites that actually do AAC formicariums and from what I can see literally just do a few different sizes but not species specific so that’s a great idea.
I don’t know whether to start this as a new topic but what would you guys suggest for formicarium designs for UK ant species? I also think I should start making smaller formicariums too, as I think the ones I am making are a little big for just a queen with a few workers. But yeah, if you guys could throw me out some ideas for specific UK species I’d really appreciate that.

I can only speak to the AntsCanada species specific nests, but they’re just a crap shoot in the dark. They look nothing like actual ant galleries, which are, in general, far tighter than any commercial nests. Ants feel safe when they’re very cramped together.

So really I should be aiming for smaller, more confined chambers than the open spaces you see quite a lot? It makes sense as surely that would be for more fitting to their natural habitat?
