Update 10-22-2016

These are doing horribly this year. I had so many queens die, that I drove back out to the desert and picked up another twenty. I had about about six colonies with nanitics, but about four of those just lost their queens. I replaced those queens with some that had no workers yet. When the colonies are this small, the foreign queens and workers always get along just fine. I now have about fifteen queens left. On top of all this, the colony I was borrowing fungus from looks like it's dying again.

Awwwwww man.... Wish u better luck

It sure was easy last year, but not at all this year.

Update 10-27-2016

I just found another four dead queens. I'm down to 10 new queens/colonies now.

The once large colony that looked like it was dying off, is almost gone now. What's left of the fungus is dying, and most of the workers have died off. I blocked off the fungus chambers they were using, and opened a fresh new chamber on the other side of the entrance chamber. I gave them a new piece of fungus from one of the new queens that recently died. We'll see if they can be revived for a fourth time, although I'm not real hopeful.

Update 10-28-2016

Found four more queens dead today. There's now only six new queens/colonies left. No news on the older dying colony.

I'll have to get a fungus garden going again. I suspect with healthy queens, it shouldn't be too hard, as long as you don't put them in test tubes; the cotton causes them to destroy the fungus pellet.

I don't have any other colonies. That last queen could be dead right now and it wouldn't surprise me. I didn't open my ant cabinet today so I don't know.
