They’re probably about the same, but I wouldn’t decide based on that because you can have very different growth rates even within the same species. Some queens are just duds, and there’s no way to find out until they have workers of their own.

I personally like the look of C. pennsylvanicus better, as I really like the shiny dark coloration, and their larger size, but I would still advise to keep both till they get decent sized colonies to see which one you like better.

Which grows faster? C. Novaeboracensis or C. Pennsylvanicus?

C. pennsylvanicus grows faster in my experience.

novaeboracensis are more colorful and grow faster. I guess I voted nova because they’re rarer than pennsylvanicus in my state, but still.
