Mikey bust-a-nut-os has officially clickbaited us. He said he was gonna make a video about white stuff growing on the fire ants yet we get a video of an ant being separated from its colony

I JUST SAW THIS VID IN MY RECOMMENDED AND WANTED TO POST ABOUT THIS BUT YOU BEAT ME TOO IT. He is running out of ideas, is doing pointless crap like taste tests and experiments we know the result of. 

Now that I watched it, don't hate me, but I felt the intended mood of the video lol. But it's a publicity stunt, to talk about social distancing in a more creative way.

He is running out of ideas, is doing pointless crap like taste tests and experiments we know the result of. 

 

Honestly, I found the food test to be one of his better videos. It wasn't full of drama, it was fairly relaxed, there was lots of nice ant footage and he even sounded like he had actually understood scientific process (one experiment isn't enough to draw hard conclusions). All in all it was a decent entertainment video.

 

Also today's video itself wasn't that bad.

Can't say anything about the Twitter stuff, maybe he messed up and posted the wrong teaser. Many of his videos seem to be recorded weeks in advance.

A channel like that is a for-profit business.  And if the numbers are correct, AC is providing exactly what his viewers want in order to make those big bucks.

At some point, you just need to accept that maybe you're not his target audience, and that posts like this are akin to a teenager cursing Santa for not giving him what he really wanted for Christmas.

 

Nobody is forcing you to continue hate watching the channel.  So what are you hoping to accomplish by complaining about it here?

He's the one that got me into ant keeping in the first place. Without him I wouldn't even be on this forum. I can't hate him when he did that. He taught me a lot about ant keeping through his videos.

that's my other concern. As much as i love solenopsis geminata, i really want to see his other species

Well the thing is, a lot of YouTube channels have had to constantly adapt to YouTube's constantly changing search and recommend algorithms and advertiser demands.  In order to get more and more views and subs, it's quite possible he's needed to cover trendy topics that YouTube wants, which may not be ones that interest you.

Further, many beginner ant keepers are going to find themselves outgrowing these YouTube channels once they start keeping ants of their own and interacting with other hobbyists in communities like this one.  After all, the target demographic for these videos does seem to be very young children, and not more experienced hobbyists.

I don't wanna hate on him I'm watching every video on release day for years now and i started ant keeping the same weekend I found his channel.

He made a lot of awesome videos but I'm 21 now and his videos turned from short documentaries to a 10 minute kids show.
That's at least what I feel.
I grew up and his target audience got younger.

I think more people should make YouTube ant content I'll definitely give it a shot

If it wasn't for Mikey's (my fire ants are planning an escape) video I would have never started keeping ants I think. His older content I really did enjoy. He is way different with his hobby now. Before the videos were about the fascination life of ants and the science more then other parts. Now he is trying to turn his channel to a Drama reality TV show. My biggest interest about the hobby was being able to watch and learn about them as you go.

He will never make the calm content Ants Australia does, that's the reason Ants Australia exists. Different target audiences, etc.
