I recently bought the founding nest from hightech ants. I quite like the humidity monitor, but I don't know what the optimal humidity would be for stuff like Solenopsis or Pheidole.

These ants typically nest in soil or damp locations, so they will need very high humidity for the brood.  Most of their requirements will be met if the gypsum block is kept just slightly damp.  If it is allowed to dry out completely, that could cause issues with the brood development.

While I can't give an exact number, I can say in most test tube setups, it is not uncommon to see the eggs and larvae stuck onto the cotton where humidity is > 90%, with the pupae piled further down the tube where the humidity is slightly less.
