My atta recently lost their fungus! I need a chunk of fungus for them to restart PLEASE!?!?

Where did you get Atta? I thought you were located in WA?

Yeah, this is totally not fishy............................. Not at all.................... Totally not illegal if they don't have a permit......................
 

On that note, they may have a permit, so don't go all out on the "busted" front.

 

Of course, that is highly unlikely, the former situation isn't though........

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies. 

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

I'm not going to judge you at all here, and I'm going to do my best to help you. You can try to find someone with Trachymrmex or Acromymyrmex or Atta, (it's all the same fungus) that is willing to share some. I would share some of my old Trachy colony but I no longer have them... I wish I could do more to help!

You can try to find someone with Trachymrmex or Acromymyrmex or Atta, (it's all the same fungus) that is willing to share some. I would share some of my old Trachy colony but I no longer have them... I wish I could do more to help!


They aren't the same fungus, but it is very similar and will work.

How did you lose this fungus? And I'm pretty sure that's why this species is very hard to keep.

Well, I do believe it can be very easy to keep them once certain parameters are met. I used to live in SoCal and kept Acromyrmex and they were very easy once you knew what temp and humidity to keep them at, especially during founding. They need a VERY stable environment and most people just can't provide that, so it's not that they are hard to keep, it's "hard" to access the tools you need to keep them. (considering most people who try seem to not have the adequate resources or incorrect information. ) And even then, they do have high mortality rates (which is one reason why I've always wanted Atta texana, cause they are polygnous and that increases the rates of success with them!)
