What cameras do people typically use to get those sexy ant pics? Obviously a phone doesn't cut it, so what do you guys tend to use when you take pictures for your journals or just generally?

Depends on your budget. You can go as low as a point and shoot with a macro setting, to a DSLR with a dedicated macro lens. I am personally going to use the Canon 5DSR with the 65mm 1-5 macro. By no means necessary for quality pictures, but it helps. If you solely want to take pictures just for your journal, a large investment might not make sense. Even a macro adapter in your cell phone could help.

I think I've decided to stick with a good macro lens on my iphone and invest in a really nice microscope that should last forever.
