I've made many ID request because I'm looking for lasius. I finally found one and when I dug it up it was empty. I found another anthill tho.

 

1. Location (on a map) of collection: Near Worcester, MA
2. Date of collection: May 8th
3. Habitat of collection: Grassy area near big rock and my drive way
4. Length (from head to gaster): 2mm to 4.5mm
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: A light brown ant with a darker thorax and a little shine
6. Distinguishing characteristics: none
7. Distinguishing behavior: Nothing
8. Nest description: several ant hills

9. Nuptial flight time and date: no clue

looks like lasius to me, couldn't tell you the species, it could even be the winter ant.

That's Lasius, not Prenolepis. Probably Lasius neoniger.
