I am going to introduce my first lasius worker with my Lasius Aphidicola queen. Before I do this I am going to refrigerate them. How long can I do this? Also, at what tempatures?

All help would be greatly appreciated.

Normal fridge temps should be enough. I would recommend ten minutes before the introduction, and then ten minutes after.

Keeping:

Tetramorium immigrans

Formica cf. pallidefulva, cf. incerta, cf. argentea

Formica cf. aserva, cf. subintegra

Pogonomyrmex occidentalis

Pheidole bicarinata

Myrmica sp.

Lasius neoniger, brevicornis

Yeah, that should work.

Normal. Yet I used normal workers for mine, and didn’t even use the fridge, and they ended up accepting.

Add just a few at a time. Keep the rest chilling in the fridge. I added two a day to my queen over several days.

I like using feathers to move ants. They’ll be moving slow because of the chilling, so it won’t be difficult.

It wasn’t luck. The queen killed workers, and stayed on the opposite end of the test tube from them, and was attacked by the workers. However, I could clearly see this was a natural strategy. Sometimes she would even take advantage of being attacked, as the workers were rubbing their pheromones all over her when attempting to bite. She also constantly groomed herself, spreading the pheromones around further. Eventually she was accepted.

Ah ok. I've heard that this species can be difficult simply because people have trouble getting the ants to accept the queen

It could be because people lack the patience required of founding these. They may just throw them together in a tight space and hope the queen will be accepted. That's what happened to me when I tried to found them in the past. It never worked.

You can also read AnthonyP163's Parasitic Lasius Journal if you haven't already, to get an idea of what yours will look like.
