Hello

i have a 1 year old camponotus chromaiodes colony in a fortress THA formacerium. The past month one morning I woke up and noticed the entire colony including the queen are in the outworld with eggs and brood. I figured maybe the nest was dry and added more water to water tower. After that they moved back in. Over the past few days I noticed they keep bringing the brood to the outworld. And they take it back in the nest. This morning I noticed the entire colony with queen and brood are at the outworld again. The nest is not dry or anything. I will mention the one thing that has changed the past month is I added a heating cable.

Maybe it is too hot in the nest?

Could. I went ahead and removed the cable today to see what happens.

Is the out world retaining humidity ?  Often times if the out world is humid they will display this behavior.

Haha I know right. Seems though it got resolved I removed the heat cable. Apparently they don’t like too hot

Camponotus have a large roaming range so its possible by now they see the outworld as part of their nest area and move eggs to warmer areas in it, in day/night cycles. You could try connecting a new out-world with a +1 foot  long tube if they are over ~50-100 workers during their active summer period

I haven't been able to keep camponotus successfully ,but for most animals I just go with the flow. If they like it then it's usually fine to leave them to it.
