Same thing happened with my Trachymyrmex a few months ago. They've since bounced back, and the queen has continued producing.

Legality aside, which is a very serious issue, I hope you didn't pay a pretty penny for this queen. With or without fungus, she's most likely not going to make it.

The mortality rate of Atta queens does seem to be pretty high.

Never mind, he said he wouldn't give you fungus. He would if you got the queen legally though.

Now why would you import this queen into one of the most productive states agriculturally? Do you know what some of the side-affects of your actions can cause if you were to release the alates? You would mess up one of the most productive states agriculturally's agriculture. I don't think I need to say how people would feel if WA's agriculture got run over by some fungus growers because someone imported them would be. I think the sensible thing to do is to find out who sold them to you, and if he's sold them to anyone else where that species is not native and could significantly harm an ecosystem, and even, a economy.

I'm pretty sure these ants are far too delicate to establish themselves. Plus it's probably too cold.

In a country that insists on owning ferrets, red eared sliders, bull frongs, and protecting feral cats, god forbid you decide to try to keep an exotic ant species in a closed enviornment.

I personally have no preference between them and Acromyrmex, but that’s a matter of opinion, I guess.

Why are we even trying to help someone keep an illegal ant colony alive?

We just found out it was illegal and now we're just having another 'discussion' about it that will eventually erupt into another major argument...just you wait...

Well importing non native species is not good, but I'm pretty sure atta is too delicate to establish themselves. Plus pesticides will wreak havoc on their fungus's. Why would anyone raise these ants without proper equipment and knowledge?

Good question, and also why would someone import them? I mean, I wanted Pheidole for my first ant colony, which would be too much for me at that point, but why would somone import these delicate ants number one, and number two, why would you want these ants for your (presumably) first colony? There's just a lot wrong with this picture in my opinion...
