Ok, well... is there anything interesting? Or is there anything cool that happened when you caught them? Or do they have a certain personality? From that, I think you can get a name for them ;)

The Camponotus subbaratus has 2 queens when I caught them and they still have 2 queens which means that this species is slightly polygenous and Pheidole dentata are one of the biggest Pheidole in the south eastern us even bigger than megacephala and Camponotus chromaiodes are huge!

I named my P. imparis queen Rice because someone said she looked like a grain of rice.

Obviously never seen a grain of rice in their life.

Personally i don't like naming ants, as it kind of takes the amazingness out of them. Instead of being an indescribable wonder of organization through chaos they are now simply some silly meme name that sounds stupid in retrospect *cough cough AC* What once gained the wonder of people with its thousands of unique and yet interconnected individuals is now simply something summed up in one word, and it takes the sheer diversity and reputation of ants and crunches that into a little easily consumed ball. Would you rather say "I own a colony of ants" or "I own a colony of ants named 'insert stupid name'" It takes the serious of it, the scientific part of it which both is loved and hated by the community for its helpfulness and painful procedure, and makes it into a docile household item, similar to the Uncle Milton ant farms. Now, instead of a carefully cared for and moderated wild animal, it is a small group of ants in a sand box. If you do name them that's up to you, but I feel a little sad whenever I see this wonderful hobby partaking in a somewhat demeaning habit. Ants are not your pets, they cannot be tamed. They are more like tenants to your formicariums, trading a sense of wonder and joy for free food and housing. They will not stick loyally by your side and do not care for you. Don't think of it as ownership but as partnership.

A) I haven't even used the name Rice in my journal about her (for the most part)

2) I believe ANTDrew said she looked like rice, but you'll know why in C...

C) The first picture I had of her was reeeeaaaally bad.

I love how "Death Cult" and "Dream Girls" are both suggestions for the same colony.

My custom is always to give my queen a name from Norse mythology. I do this as a nod to my Scandinavian side and because the Norse names sound weird and crazy enough to fit nicely with the alieness of insects. I use the name collectively to refer to the whole superorganism, not just the queen.
Oh, and I didn’t say the rice comment.
