Can you get an image of the other ant? It looks different than the one in the new photo and might be a queen.

They looked the same.

How wide is the test tube? (in mm, if you can)
I can’t measure it at this very moment, but I have no intention of leaving them in one this size. It’s the container of a cheap bird feeder from Walmart, lol. I am ordering more actual test tubes from AntsCanada later today.

AntsCanada test tubes are overpriced. You can get a much better deal somewhere else.
I love Camponotus!

From my experience with them, they have specialized test tubes that have marks on them to help with where to fill up with water and stop with a cotton ball, have small pegs on them to help prevent rolling, and they are easily adaptable to their formicariums. I personally think it’s great for beginners and I have no issue with the price.

There are cheaper ways to prevent rolling and to mark your tubes. Also the costs add up as you need to buy more tubes(If only AC).

I know. You repeated what I said... And I am willing to pay that little bit of extra manufacturing cost. They are quality items and I prefer quality for my ants.

I guess I took too long to change that. You wouldn't prefer better visibility? Also you could probably get like 5 times that amount of tubes for that price(Glass). Shipping is another story.

1) I prefer not to have glass. It breaks too easily and I have 7 kids.
2) The visibility of these are great. The photo I used for the ID did not use an AC tube but a cheap bird feeding tube from Walmart. My C. Americanus is in an AC tube and I can see her perfectly.
3) I haven’t had an issue with shipping costs from AC. I’m not sure what people’s beef is with them, unless they are ordering from out of country. Then yeah, it’s costly.
4) Again, I don’t find the cost offsetting as it’s worth it.

Plastic tubes are a short term investment. In my experience they break quite easily as well and get scratched up over time.

I’m not sure why people keep bashing AntsCanada, but the attacks being made are also attacks on my personal choices and opinions. I came here hoping to find a friendly ant community but the moment I mentioned I use AntsCanada I get an onslaught on bashing’s from people. We have different opinions. There is no need to say these choices are bad choices. If this continues, I’m probably just going to leave. It’s disrespectful and unfair to new members to be treated this way.

It's really just an ongoing joke within the community. I'm sure, most members that mention it don't mean anything by it.
The "AC is basically Tupperware" started when they started making their outworlds and accessories using ABS in an injection mold, giving it an opaque look. I personally don't like AC nests and outworlds because I like the naturalistic feel of grout and Ytong. It gives the ants something to hold on to, and is important when keeping Formicinae, which spray formic acid. The grout/Ytong acts as a sponge and soaks the acid up so the ants don't gas themselves to death, whereas with AC's plastic nests it just beads up. With Camponotus, Formica and Lasius it really helps. I would recommend you buy some nests from THA.
