4-29-20

On Monday I ordered stuff from nurbs for my ants. He gave me 3 v2s and 2 polygynous Veromessor Pergandei queens. They took a long time to move because they had a bunch of eggs. I currently have them in a test tube with seeds.

Are yours still tearing at the cotton ball? I'm afraid mine are going to die of exhaustion.

No, I don't think your Pergandei would die of exhaustion. They should be fine unless they chew their way through the cotton.

Ok. Good to know. They haven't made much progress and the cotton is still intact. They just won't give up.

They have seeds but don't seem to do anything with them. They just pull at the cotton ball.

Mine aren't laying eggs.

Is the surface of the water side cotton wet? I think if not enough water is wicking through, sometimes ants will keep attacking the cotton.

Sometimes I don't think it has anything to do with it, though. Hard to know....

Also Nurbs sent me a poly vero group in a short plastic transport tube. If that's what you have, you need to move them into a proper long tube with lots of water.

I moved them to a proper setup. There does appear to be air bubbles in the water end of the test tube. Should I redo it?

A few small bubbles are fine. Just make sure that water is wicking its way to the ants over the next week or so. It doesn't have to be like super wet or anything, but if too much of it is drying out (like for example if half the cotton looks super dry) then you might need to try again. (Actually it's always good to check on the cotton as time goes by. Like today my Preno group's cotton was remarkably pink. Yuck.)
