10. No mentioning politics on this forum.

11. Posts which display heated arguments which contribute little or nothing to this community are to be deleted.

Just suggestions. Drew would have to make them official.

Can ban politics in chat too. But then two certain chat members would never have anything to say lol. Personally, I don't see point of banning it on the forums if its still allowed in chat. It can be kept in that private room drew made and those two certain chat members can just talk to themselves all day lol.

I don't think censoring of any sort is what's needed. You argue you look dumb, that's how it works. I argued about unrelated topics when I first joined, it got me a little buzz. Soon you learn though, and start debating people in an environment that allows and promotes thoughtful debates (like Twitter lol). Besides, it helps us know who the twelve year olds are....

Such bans would be directly contrary to the reasons Drew set this forum up.

Well, what about newcomers? It'd be terrible to have innocent people looking for antkeeping advice come on and get caught up in these political debates (to put it in a nice way). Moreover, they might not even bother joining. I mean, forums like these aren't just for advice; they unite people, in this case under antkeeping. No reasonable person would join a place tearing itself to shreds (I know that's an exaggeration; political debates here do seem rare, but i've made my point).

This has already been discussed before and has been pretty much taken care of for the most part. There is a subforum that was created for these kind of topics. There is no link to it on the main page, and the topics do not show up in the "Latest Posts" side bar. I felt this was a good compromise. If someone enjoys those topics, they can go to that subforum to find them. As for everyone else, they don't have to see them.

That's a good idea .... Though I had no idea it existed.  But I see enough politics in Facebook and really have no real desire to get involved if I can help it.

This is dumb.  Stop adding to useless arguments.

Complaints like this should be made through private requests to be dealt with there.

While heated discussions made in good faith are permitted, constant trolling and flaming behavior cannot be allowed to continue on this forum, and will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

Well, GCsnelling does seem to have some quite serious tensions with me that can lead to something in the future whatever that is bad or good. I'm the only one he has ever gone to a thread to and complained about my estimations. That can't even be disproven or proven without being there. Heck maybe the ants were never there and they are really just termites. I mean no pictures, no stated location (outside a city, but that is rather general), so can't really proven. Seems like he really has it for me, whatever "it" is.

There's no point in arguing, I know I look pretty stupid because I contributed, (sorry about that) but it JUST dawned on me that we should keep politics off, or at least have it have it heavily moderated. When a debate gets out of hand and someone is getting angry, then the chance of changing a mind goes down like 90% and it just makes the forum look bad. This forum is great for specific questions that aren't on google. We already have enough people willing to dive headfirst into the hobby without even a simple google search, so we should be more civil and make this place better. By the way, if you sell ants, (I do) PLEASE send a link of this forum to your customer.

It already has been. As soon the thread degraded into left vs right political squabble, I moved it.

So, to everybody, if you don't want your thread to disappear, make sure to keep that crap in the right place.

I appreciate your point, but I don't think the value of engaging in that kind of discussion is to change someone else's mind.  The real value of participating is trying to find an opportunity to be persuaded by someone else to change your own mind.

We should all strive to find opportunities to be proven wrong.  If you are wrong, wouldn't you want to know it, and know how to become "not wrong"?  We should also strive to be more "anti-fragile", utterly impossible for someone to offend us, or provoke us to anger merely with noises someone has made with their mouths, or mashed into their keyboard.

I agree with your last point - all new ant keepers should be directed to this forum to learn from people who care enough to teach and support them.
