On April 7th 2014, around 10:00 PM, I found three of these Camponotus sp. dealates wandering around on a trail in O'Neill Regional Park, in Trabuco Canyon, California. A few weeks later on May 2nd, I found another one on the shoulder of the road close to the same area.

These (the first three) started laying eggs about four days later, and now have quite a bit of brood, including cocoons already.

One of these has since died, leaving me with three.

Last night one queen got her first two workers.

Update 6-20-2014

I have now decided these are C. vicinus like I suspected from the start, and so I am discontinuing this journal, and merging it with my C. vicinus journal found here (http://forum.formicu...2014/#entry2658).
