I just bought some culture off of canadian Anter. He owns the Canada-ant-colony.com shop. It's great service, has lots of supplies and ants for us 'ant keeping deprived Canadians' :)

The site now has some Tarheel Ants products too. Wooooo!

Yes I’ve already ordered some stuff from him. :) I’ve also order from CS Exotics. Both great!

Use anti-mite paper. Trust me, you don't want to deal with mites. Took me several hours to kill em all after I discarded all my cultures. Try feeding raw shrimp to your ants. My Camponotus sansabeanus enjoys it a lot.

That’s what I don’t want to deal with... gross and not fun, not to mention a huge waste of money.
Thanks. I doubt I can get the paper on time. Maybe having the container in a pool of water?
Thanks for the shrimp idea I’ll definitely try it!

Compare the price with the shipping and quantity between these two places.

Dubia roaches are like pets, they are very friendly, I let em hang on my hands sometimes, but my Camponotus sansabeanus do not seem to like them as food, so be wary of any Camponotus species that may not like roaches.

Haha ok so my ants love these little fruit flies. The problem is they go everywhere when I open the culture lid and I end up crushing some when I close the lid. I’m tapping the container like crazy before and during to keep them down but it doesn’t help much. What do you do to feed them so they don’t go everywhere? Can I put them in the fridge for a few mins or will that kill them? Literally would be hilarious to be a fly on the wall watching me trying to kill and catch them all.

You can even keep them in the fridge full time.

Shrimp, interesting. I know shrimp aren't insects, but do they have similar protein since they are both arthropods, and do shrimp count as feeding "bugs" to your ants?

Ants will oftentimes eat tablescrap meats such as chicken.
