Has anyone found this species in the bay area?  I'm interested in finding a queen for this sp this year.  I'd love to read an ant journal or a story about your queen collecting you have posted for this sqecie. 

 

I searched the forums but couldn't pick out any local posts.

It appears that most of the herculanus collections are futher east, near Tahoe and further down south of there. Pretty much always close to the state border.

Why this species in particular, if I may ask

Because I haven't encountered them before, and I like their color, and I suspect they have really large majors.   If there was another species closer to the bay area that had such a nice color and were a really large bodied species I would be glad to try to collect that one instead.
