If you want Pogonomyrmex, just wait for Ant_Dude to set up shop. Queens are way cheaper than THA queens, and he has experience with shipping, so my suggestion would be wait for A_D, unless you want Pogonomyrmex specifically from Cali...

He is selling queens but I hear they're not that difficult to found, and I'm sure he could provide insight into how to found them as he has a 30-40 worker colony of them. Ant_Dude is probably your best bet...

Californians still require a permit to order P. occidentalis. You can apply here: CDFA - Plant Health - Permits and Regulations

really? Ok, then just ignore what I said lol. Cali is weird sometimes, but if you can get a permit, I do really suggest you buy from Ant_Dude...

Where?

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

They're no smaller than Pogonomyrmex.

Actually, most of the workers are smaller than Pogonomyrmex.
