I found this awesome deal on amazon! http://www.amazon.co...=usb microscope With up to 500x zoom and a 5 megapixel camera, for just $22, is pretty good! I thought I would use it to finally take some nice pics of ants!

Not a bad price.  That is digital magnification, not actual magnification.

Looks like it works with several operating systems, but not Windows 7(64 bit) or windows 8.

I quite like the cheap USB microscopes.  You have no fear of breaking them.  :D

I believe mine is the DX one and it operates as a USB camera so I'm just using VLC and going to "Open Camera Stream" in the File options. I'm assuming the software is to use the button on the microscope which I'm guessing is to capture, but VLC's capture command works fine. So chances are, you'd still be able to use it with Windows 7/8/10/3.1.  :)

I got an extremely similar microscope on ebay for $15.  There's always listings of them there, so if you're lucky you can get one of them for even less than what I paid.

Current Species:
Camponotus fragilis

Novomessor cockerelli

Pogonomyrmex montanus

Pogonomyrmex rugosus

Manica bradleyi

It's drivers that you need to worry about when it comes to OS compatibility. The newer versions of Windows usually have drivers for most devices though.
