BE. PATIENT. you cannot rush it and it will only kill them faster

The more you check on them, the more likely they'll eat their eggs, and the more likely you'll get frustrated, and quit the hobby.

Research, research, research. You would be surprised how many questions you have that can be answered with a few clicks of a keyboard.

I love reading documents about various ant species. Yet I always feel there’s just too few......

However, all the sources say pretty much the same thing, just in a slightly different way.

Mostly because people don't study them enough. You can't make papers if there's nothing to write on.

Kill them all.

Hmmm... an interesting opinion on an ant site...

Always start with a test tube, then work your way up to like an AntsCanada ant tower (depending on what type of species it is) or a Tar Heel ants mini hearth. I kept my Camponotus Modoc colony in a test tube for like...2 years are they did great (I did need to change out the test tube a couple of times, but it was fine). Then I connected their test tube to a AntsCanada ant tower, in hopes to have then move into it, but they never did. Then I put them into a mini hearth, and they are doing great (the species I have is really stubborn, so I had to force them into the mini hearth :( ).

Of course. I was just stating that that was an interesting opinion to have and be on a ant-lover site

I meant he had some opinions similar to “kill them all”, except in terms of the ethicality of ant keeping.

I kept my Camponotus Modoc colony

I still say they're pennsylvanicus.......

You would have to have genetic testing done, so why don't we let the cards fall where they may...

Both species are present in South Dakota, yet the climate favors C. pennsylvanicus. Diversity seems to be more similar to the East Coast than the West Coast/Southwest.

once again, genetic testing would have to differentiate them for certain, so there's no real point in guessing the genus unless one of you plan on genetically testing it...
