I have one Pogonomyrmex subdentatus queen (2 out of the 20 that died left alive) I caught her late in the season(late October) and she has had lots of trouble getting founded .has eaten tons of eggs even though food was offered .and finally she got her first and only nanitic on dec 25th and it died about 4 days later.I'm looking for any and all advice on this species cause every queen I’ve had has either died or always eats her eggs.the crazy thing is with the queen in question she’s constantly laying and I giver protein every 4 days or so.please help lol

How often do you give them sugar/carbohydrates? I'm no antkeeping expert yet, so please research everything I say, but I do know that adult ants tend to consume more sugar than protein. It's really only the larvae that require protein (again, please get a second opinion. I don't know if i'm 100% right!)

I give steady supply of both and sunflower seeds as well for Pogonomyrmex

Most pogonomyrmex don’t eat sugars. Just seeds, protein and water. Nyger, amaranth, and poppy seeds are the preferred seeds from my experience.

I had a queen who eventually died in some condensation - a real pity. But what temps do you have her at? I read they like it REALLY warm, 90-95 F, and they can go into diapause or something at normal room temp in the winter. Also mine would eat cut up mealworm.

I have her on my wife’s snake rack ranging from 90-92 f not sure why her nanitic died and she’s been having so much trouble getting going
