What type of tree?

I have absolutely no idea. Pretty much like 99.5% of my knowledge is just ant. The only time I pay attention to plants is whether or not my Atta will eat them

Lol. If you get a picture of it I'd like one so I can see if there's any in my area.

Pseudomyrmex apache never nest in twigs, which makes collection a real hassle.

Update 1/21

Over the last week or so, this colony's larvae have all been pupating, and the queens have been laying like crazy. Some of the brood are new alates, but there are also lots of worker pupae as well.

As of a few days ago these guys died. Their test tube ran out of water and I gave them a new one, but they just... didn't use it and died of dehydration. If that doesn't explain why I don't like these ants, I don't really know what does. Probably won't be keeping them again, they're just not my type of ant.

And Todays News Is...

The ant with the lowest IQ has been found. Pseudomyrmex pallidus, the ant that willingly committed suicide via dehydration.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Any advice on these? Just caught a queen.

Small nesting spaces are preferred, specifically with a small nest entrance. Frozen fruit flies are their favorite food, and small drops of honey are good for founding queens as well. They will escape from any setup you give them so just... try your best to contain them?
