Bad news: my springtail culture box crashed and burned. I can’t find any living ones, but lots of dead ones are everywhere. The box smells off and these tiny worms showed up. They were doing so well for over a year.

Ugh. Tiny worms are likely nematodes, I get them in dead springtail cultures as well.

I hate nematodes. I don’t mind larvae, but nematodes........

*voila Sorry.
Excellent job with the termites! I saw a Zootermopsis alate outside of the window, but my dad shot it with the salt gun. Would have been useless anyway, as there was only one, but I was amazed at how large it was.
Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.
However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:
Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Other insects: Polistes sp. Queen
Ants I need: Pheidole sp., Trachymyrmex sp., Crematogaster cerasi , Dorymyrmex sp. Most wanted: Pheidole morrisii

The polyxenids have bred! Newborns are around half a mm.

Can I use isopods as feeders?
Yes, but make sure to use soft bodied ones or woodlice that won't curl up.

Aphaenogaster taking liquid food.
And some Temnothorax.

So the aphaenogaster just had a huge die off right after I took those photos I'll move them into the isopod display paludarium and see how they do.

Could it have been something that got in the food?
