Some ants from Pennsylvania on AntWeb.
A Field Guide to the Ants of New England may be helpful as well.

Anyone have any ideas about when Formica ants in Pennsylvania have their nuptial flight. I'm hoping to catch a few queens

Drew has posted a mating flight calendar and so far it has been very accurate. http://www.formicult...t-mating-chart/

Thank You so much AntTeen804. I figured out that Camponotus pennsylvanicus lives in my area and are having nuptial flights right now. I am hoping to catch a few queens and start my first colony.

Camponotus Pennsylvanicus is really abundant there and also here in NY.
They are flying right now. Try looking on a warm day after rain for freshly mated queens, especially on pavement.
You can also check under loose bark of fallen trees/logs as well as under them.
They like to nest in old wood that has been eaten by other insects, they like holes and crevices,

Would you be able to give a specific city and date that they flew? I am working on a database with this information to be used for a new mating flight chart.

dspdrew - I saw Camponotus Noveboracensis fly on the 9th in Albion, NY.
Camponotus pennsylvanicus flew between the 13th and the 20th. Not sure of exact date.
Hopefully that is somewhat helpful
