A few months ago I applied for a permit to possess M mendax, I just got a follow-up response from aphis and believe I will get approval shortly (I have applied for a permit previously and that was what happened) I know little about the rarity and ecology of the species or how commonly they are kept where they are present. But am interested in queens/founding colonies. Again I am more testing the waters as I have not yet secured approval, but am fairly confident I will receive it in the near future.

They are fairly uncommon and nobody got any this season. You will most likely have to wait until the end of next season.

They are very common in Utah and Arizona, but rare in CA.
I may be the only person with a large thriving colony in CA. Not sure if Drew's colony is still alive. Not that I'm flexing or anything. OK I'm flexing.
