Hey everyone! Since the ant season is over for most of us, I was thinking of making a different kind of thread. Let's get to know the forum members by saying what ant species we want to catch next season and why! I'll start;
I want to keep Lasius Americanus because it's extremely native around my area, and super easy to maintain, as well as looking cool! I will also keep an eye out for the slightly larger Lasius Neoniger and Lasius Flavus.

Nice, Lasius is a really easy species, just a tad small in my opinion

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

My goal is to get a colony of Pheidole pilifera or Pheidole morrisii. I've very rarely encountered queens of both species, but they're either infertile or die off when I try to raise them.

Crematogaster cerasi

I dream this spring to catch the Queens Camponotus herculeanus and Camponotus ligniperdus. I looked at the old stump in the garden. I dream of settling the colony Camponotus ligniperdus in it

This isn't necessarily realistic, but I would love to have a massive winter ant (Prenolepis imparis) outpost to start taking ground back from the Argentine ants. I know, wrong conditions, not gonna happen, but wow that would be cool lol.

I might try to do this, I would catch tons of P. Imparis queens, raise colonies, nuke all argentines in our yard, and release some, and hope that they survive, and eventually have nuptial flights.

I also really want a winter ant colony. I spent my entire free time in spring searching and didn't even see a male. I found 1 wild colony. Also any Pheidole species I would enjoy raising.

Goo luck raising neivamyrmex. If you do manage to catch some, it would be amazing if they survived
