If you are having trouble try plastic tubes. Less visibility but work great.

If you're clumsy or easily disctracted plastic test tubes may suit you better. They're also better for anting (because they can't break when thrown into a bag or stuffed into a backpack).

I've been using glass tubes for years though with no problems, the main advantage of glass is that it can be reused infinitely (plastic will degrade at some point).

Plastic tubes don't shatter and are cheaper.

Get a test tube holder or some clay to prevent them from rolling, but glass is better than plastic so you can clean them easier.

Test tubes are circular and roll so without something to stop it, it shattered on the floor. this does not mean glass test tubes are stupid, they are just more fragile

I hate it when glass jumps on the floor and shatters all by itself.

I'm using those bird feeder tubes from walmart  they're like a buck each nice and fat and pretty lookin' nice clear plastic.  to prevent them from rolling, i just take a kneadable eraser and make two little stoppers

I would leave too. I couldn't handle this level of s**t either. I think it'd be a good idea to leave for a few months until the situation dies down.

Honestly if you don't want to be "harassed" stop responding to only the negative posts and try to take something good out of the positive posts that answer your question. Several people have already given you solutions to your problem, in case you did not read those and some how overlooked them, basically people are saying that plastic tubes do not shatter easily and are more durable although they scratch easier and have less visibility, or to get a test tube rack or some putty or something similar to that to secure the tube in place.

I'm pretty sure this time was different. He only responded to one reply and it wasn't even negative, yet still gets harassed, even by a PROFESSIONAL MYRMECOLOGIST! Can we all agree to give the kid a break? What kind of reputation do you think this gives the community?

I use em! (i'm 14), so it isn't true. Although they do shatter from time to time.
