A while ago I got a pogonomyrmex rugosus queen with three workers. One worker died but then another one enclosed from its pupae and that's where I am now. They are housed in a small starter formicarium.

What kind of seeds do they have? Have you noticed them eating the seeds?

Well, atleast they have eggs. Some people would be more than willing to do anything for eggs from a queen of any given species

There is a important time for everything, important place for everyone, an important person for everybody, and an important ant for each and every ant keeper and myrmecologist alike

With your huge successful p rugosus colony that passed away... did you raise the queen in a test tube?

I have a one year old colony that's at around 15 workers. By far the slowest growing Pogonomyrmex around. Feed them well and they explode though, especially in dirt setups.

I actually did. You can read all about it in my journal here (https://www.formicul...pdated-8-4-2019). As you can see, the colony started out growing extremely slow, but then started blowing up in size after about 9 months. If you notice my update from March of the next year, it says they only had 8 workers, then about 6 months later, they had 80 workers.

I wish most ants were like that. Would make ant keeping extremely interesting to say the least

Do you think it is safe to boost with P Californicus?

I have yet to see a species that brood boosting is unsafe for. Worst case scenario they make a meal out of it.
