A few months ago i obtained a p. californicus queen with one worker in a small starter formicarium. But then the hydrostone stopped working so I moved them into a long container with the corner on a heat mat which is where they hang out.

Uh oh. If they do hatch into alates, take them out.

I think alates just use up colony resources. Sometimes they show up earlier than they are supposed to.

I've heard a couple people now say that their formicarium's tile stopped absorbing water. I've used tons of these formicariums, and have never experienced this. I did have problems when they came into contact with silicone due to the oils.

Have you done anything to the formicarium other than housed ants in it? Even simply washing it?

Alates are just an annoying thing that takes up resources that the colony needs. Once the colony is mature, they can stay, as there are plenty of workers to gather more resources.

I Washed it after moving there into a test ant tubes setup where they have gained 10 workers but it still doesn’t work for my c. semitestaceus

The queen laid a huge pile of eggs where the first batch just turned to larvae... so roughly 15 larvae, and about 7 pupae. I will get a photo
