1. Location (on a map) of collection: Indiana PA USA

2. Date of collection: September 22
3. Habitat of collection: I found her sprinting across my porch. There is a dirt patch off my porch, then lots of grass, and mulch beds all around.
4. Length (from head to gaster): 6-7mm
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: She is reddish orange brown with black mandibles. She’s very shiny with hairs pretty much all over. Also a noticeable circle of hair around the bottom of her gaster. 1 petiole.
6. Distinguishing characteristics: Her gaster looks like its color striped. Oh and please disregard her wings. They got stuck together while moving test tubes.
7. Distinguishing behavior: She is super clean. Always cleaning.
8. Nest description: Not sure
9. Nuptial flight time and date: Not sure

This is a parasitic Lasius species. Possibly Lasius claviger.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

I agree with parasitic lasius. I recommend reading the founding guide here: http://www.formicult...cial-parasites/

Thank you so much. I did read that guide during my research the past couple weeks, but I am going to read it again, and hopefully figure something out.

Again, Thanks!
