Expectations: ants have evolved with great success and queens are easy to raise

Reality: I like drowning in honey


Expectations: ants are interesting creatures and most of the colony will forage

Reality: I'd rather sit in the tube with all my 500 sisters

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies. 

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Expectation: Younger colonies will be more calm and timid.
Reality: Younger colonies will freak out and workers will try to leave the test tube as soon as they get the slightest chance.

Expectation: The queen is a good mother and will care for her brood.
Reality: The queen will snack on her own children if she gets scared. Sometimes she doesn't even need a motive.

Expectation: although formiculture is a wonderful community where people share knowledge and do their research before asking dumb questions. The members here are generally nice to others and don't cuss out as soon as they receive criticisms. People post relevant titles and only really mess up if they're unaware of something or double posts

I don't know what is wrong with all of your guys ant. All my colonies make nice little midden piles that are very easy to clean up in thier outworlds.

Expectation: you ask your parents and peers for help controlling your anger issues such as going to counseling or getting prescribed medicine by a psychologist
