I've been fascinated by ants for a long time and have been reading about ant keeping and lurking on forums for a few years. A sunny day late July going out from my apartment building I saw a whole bunch of Lasius niger queens crawling around on the side walk. I wasn't prepared at all and all I could find at home was a couple of pill bottles. But now I have two queens and I'm super excited. I have a laser cutter at work and I've already been drawing up a few things in cad to cut and assemble.
I'm 42, have two sons. Live in the south of Sweden.
For many years I haven't really been able to keep animals so it has been mostly dreaming and planning about it. Now I'm in the process of building a large rainforest vivarium, 340 gallon/1300 liter, that will be mostly focused on being a display tank with a rainforest biotope. Will probably be home to poison dart frogs and some mourning geckos in the future. Or ants who knows?
Besides ants I have some cultures of different isopods and a few beetle larvae growing (Mecynorrhina torquata ugandensis).
Anyway, happy to be here and to learn and to share.
Peace!
