People who have no clue about ants:

Edit: Okay, this image of a Pogonomyrmex californicus worker is not working, but you get the idea.

"AH! ITS A FIRE ANT! RUN!"

Also people who have no clue about ants:

"that's tiny, that's not a fire ant."

Me: "Yes it is, around here, you can tell it is one because it has black on it's abdomen, but this doesn't apply in the desert, where harvester ants can have a black abdomen."

Them "Whatever, still too small"

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).
