On http://www.antsnational.com, there is an item marketed as the "best seller." Any thoughts on it for a mature colony of Lasius? Or is the Tar Heel Ant's Piece of Haven better? Thanks.

Species I keep:
1 Lasius cf. Neoniger 30 workers
1 Camponotus sp. 15 workers
20 Tetramorium SpE 30 workers
1 T. Sessile 200 workers
The shipping to Howard County is outrageous though. $60 is the total price! Will the Piece of Haven be a better choice.

I will contact the owner to ask him about the hydration system. I'll keep you guys posted!

I currently keep:
Formica podzolica
Thanks! Would you ask him what material he is using while you are at it?

I'd suggest an Antscanada omni nest. They're a bit pricey but are high quality and come with hydration chambers, outworld, and all basic necessary components of a formicarium.
I think antsnational uses some sort of special plaster for their nests. I contacted him about nests before and asked about the hydration system. I was told the material he uses soaks up water really well so you only need to water the top and the medium soaks up all the water and distributes it quite evenly through the nest. Though granted that was for one of his founding setups. I wouldn't know what the protocol would be on his bigger nests.
I'm leaning towards a Growth Chamber. No one has had bad experiences with it on this forum.

How large is your mature colony? 50 workers? 200? 500+?
There are several places you can buy them, or you can also attempt to make them.

I caught a 19 worker colony of small black ants that look like Lasius, or are Lasius. Isn't there only one place to a Growth Chamber?
